March 22, 2018: Senate District Conventions!

The Harris County Democratic Party (HCDP) believes #ItAllStartsHere in turning Texas and the country blue. This only happens when YOU get involved.  No better way to be a part of the process than attending your Senate District (SD) Convention on Saturday, March 24th throughout Harris County.

We know this coincides with the March for Our Lives and encourage those who can’t make their Senate District Conventions to attend this amazing event that HCDP fully supports. Find out more about the march here.

The Senate District Conventions are held every two years in preparation for the Texas Democratic Convention (June 21-23 in Fort Worth). The purpose of the Senate District Conventions is to select delegates to the State Convention, pass resolutions that will be advanced to the State Convention for possible inclusion in the party platform, connect with fellow Democratic activists in your precinct and neighborhood and hear from Democratic candidates and elected officials who are #FightingToMakeLivesBetter.

Find where your Senate District convention will be located here.

See you Saturday!

P.S. If you’re not able to attend your Senate District Convention (hopefully, because you are participating in March for Our Lives) and you want to be a state delegate please contact your Senate District Chair.

On Saturday, March 24, community members from Houston will gather for a “sibling march” as part of the March for Our Lives movement. The march is one of hundreds happening around the country planned by students and survivors of gun violence in communities big and small, in all 50 states. The national day of action will focus on calling for lawmakers to make students’ lives and safety a priority and to pass common-sense gun safety legislation. The March will take place on Saturday, March 24th at Tranquility Park in downtown Houston starting at 9am. To RSVP please text March to 644-33 or go on to the Facebook invite to tell us you’re coming.

Judge Mike Engelhart, Melissa Arredondo & Sanjay Bapat, Anne Eubank & Charles Brown, Christin Chandler, George Farah, Cory Fein, Greg Griffin, Dallas S. Jones, Sara Oussar, Ryan Slattery, Brian Trachtenberg, Erik Vidor, Rob Icsezen & Alia Vinson, Matt Zeis …

After the HCDP Opening Weekend Crawfish Boil, be sure to join us and ROADwomen at the Stages Repertory Theatre to see “Ann,” a play about our last Democratic Governor of Texas, the unstoppable Ann Richards! Critics have given the play rave reviews deeming it hilarious and absorbing.

Holland Taylor was nominated for a Tony in 2013 for her portrayal of Governor Richards, and Houston’s own Sally Edmundson takes on the icon in this version. You don’t want to miss this showing!

May 22nd - Run-off Election - Primary season isn’t quite over yet as we have some exciting races going into a runoff. Don’t forget to vote and get those around you registered and activated!

Texas is the second largest state in the country with Harris County being the largest county in the entire state of Texas. There are an estimated 4 million people in the county, but only around 2.4 million of those people are registered voters. If those 2.4 million voters vote Democrat in the 2018 election, we will turn Texas blue.

Texas is not going to turn blue on it’s own. “It All Starts Here” in Harris County! We have a responsibility to stand up to hatred, racism, and all the fundamentally wrong values of the Republican Party. Stand up to Texas Republicans and fight to make lives better today by becoming a Harris County Democratic Party volunteer! There are so many ways to get involved. Complete a Volunteer Interest Form and find out what way works for you best. We’ll be in touch.
