Save the Date: Thursday, May 24th - Our African American Council presents a Town Hall: State of Our Schools, The truth about public education and how to fix it. This town hall is to address what is going on with our schools in the Houston Independent School District, how did we get here, the myth of school choice and what we can do to move forward? This will be held at St. John’s UMC (2019 Crawford St. Houston Texas 77002). Save this date to be a part of an important discussion on how we can save our brown and black schools.

Wednesday, May 30th - In honor of Asian American Heritage Month, our May’s Town Talk, The Poltical Power of Asian Americans, will be presented by our Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) committee and center around the issues pertaining to the AAPI community. We will have four panelists as our guests speakers: HISD District VII Trustee Anne Sung, community activist Dona Murphey, award-winning filmmaker and Sugar Land native Li Lu and the first Texas’ first ever district judge of South Asian descent Judge Ravi K. Sandill. Moderated by Silky Malik. The Town Talk will be held at the Bayland Community Center (6400 Bissonnet St, Houston, TX 77074).

We will have a drawing for 2 FREE hours of elite college admissions advising sessions including essay composition assistance. Light refreshments will be provided. Thank you to our amazing sponsors Representative Gene Wu and Representative Hubert Vo and co-host Sharpstown Democrats!

Texas is the second largest state in the country with Harris County being the largest county in the entire state of Texas. There are an estimated 4 million people in the county, but only around 2.4 million of those people are registered voters. If those 2.4 million voters vote Democrat in the 2018 election, we will turn Texas blue.

Texas is not going to turn blue on it’s own. “It All Starts Here” in Harris County! We have a responsibility to stand up to hatred, racism, and all the fundamentally wrong values of the Republican Party. Stand up to Texas Republicans and fight to make lives better today by becoming a Harris County Democratic Party volunteer! There are so many ways to get involved. Complete a Volunteer Interest Form and find out what way works for you best or sign up for one or more of the next three volunteer events, found below:
