Texas House Speaker Dismisses HD135 Election Contest Petition

Rosenthal011823

Mike May, the losing Republican candidate for HD135 who challenged the results of his election, lost his battle on Wednesday when the Texas House Speaker dismissed his election contest petition, citing “failure to timely file security costs.” May’s failure to pay the fees were an ironic illustration of just how capable he would have been as a representative had his contest been fruitful.

“This is exactly the outcome we were expecting,” said Harris County Democratic Party Chair Odus Evbagharu.

“These baseless accusations pushed by desperate candidates like May continue to fuel election denialism in Texas.”

“We hope to see the same results with the Election-denying lawsuits happening against our candidates, who were fairly elected and sworn in to fulfill their constitutional duties.”

"Although no evidence of widespread voter fraud has been found, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has been actively pursuing election-related crimes since he took office in 2015.

"Experts and voting rights advocates say the bills would continue to empower state officials to scrutinize elections administrators, ignite more lawsuits and intimidate voters."

Also…

The Harris County Democratic Party receives NO funds from the Texas Democratic Party or the Democratic National Committee. Our operations solely depend on the proceeds from our fundraising activities, donations, and our Sustaining Membership program. This is how we pay the rent on our offices, the salaries for our staff, and all other expenses. We encourage all of our Precinct Chairs to support our operations by becoming a Sustaining Member with a monthly payment as low as $10 dollars per month. You can become a sustaining member at the following link:  Sustaining Membership | Harris County Democrats (harrisdemocrats.org)
