In honor of Asian American Heritage Month, our May's Town Talk: The Political Power of Asian Americans, will be presented by our Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) committee. The discussion will focus around the issues pertaining to the voting power of the AAPI community. Our four panelists are:

-Neeta Sane, HCC District VII Trustee who is a business owner of a consulting firm, community leader, wife and mother who brings to the HCC Board a unique blend of innovative entrepreneurship, educational background and fervor to develop programs that enhance student success at HCC, serving the community with universal values.

-Dona Kim Murphey, Community organizer and board certified clinical neurologist.

-Li Lu, Born in Suzhou, China, moved to the US at age five. She received her BA from the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts, graduating cum laude. She went on to become an award-winning filmmaker and focuses on documentary films that creates social impact and expands representation of minorities.

-Judge R.K. Sandill, 127th Civil District Court Judge in Harris County since 2009 and Texas's first ever district court judge of South Asian descent.

The discussion will be moderated by former Texas 2nd Congressional District candidate, Silky Malik. We will have a drawing for 4 cases of mangoes and 2 FREE hours of elite college admissions advising sessions including essay composition assistance. Upon taking office, DA Ogg immediately placed public safety—paramount among her guiding principles—at the forefront of her administration.
DA Ogg emphasizes collaborative efforts between the Harris County District Attorney’s Office and local law enforcement to narrow the focus of police and prosecutors alike on the violent offenders who pose the largest danger to the public.
Licensed by the State Bar of Texas in 1987, and recognized as a specialist in Criminal Law by the Board of Legal Specialization since 1992, DA Ogg has a track record of public service and thirty years professional experience to rely on as she works to reform the Harris County criminal justice system.
A native Houstonian, DA Ogg received her law degree from South Texas College of Law Houston in 1986, and her undergraduate degree in Journalism from the University of Texas at Austin.

In honor of LGBTQIA+ pride, our Town Talk this month will focus on how to be an ally to the transgender and nonbinary community. Lou Weaver, queer transman & transgender programs coordinator for Equality Texas, will moderate a panel discussion with members of the transgender and nonbinary community, (panelists TBA). Over the course of the evening, Lou will explore the simple language and terminology we can use as allies, when talking about the transgender and nonbinary community.

The T.E.A Party, was created with a sense of empathy, compassion, awareness and a need for understanding. This year The T.E.A Party will be honoring: Man of the Year, Woman of the Year and Alliance of the Year (Person, Company or Organization).

TDWHarris will celebrate the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, which gave women the right to vote. We chose August 19, 2018 because that is the anniversary of the passage of the Amendment. Women suffered beatings and ridicule for this precious right - the right to have a say in what happened in their lives.

We plan to invite Local, State, and National female Democratic candidates to celebrate both this wonderful anniversary, as well as the shining prospect of electing great numbers of women in November 2018!

Convention Bazaar:
A Bazaar (Trade Show) with more than 500 booths will be organized at this convention. At this trade show, a variety of merchandise will be available including clothing, books, audio-visual, etc. Contact akhan@isna.net for more information.
