Join TDW Harris at the July meeting, where Elise Griesmyer will speak about her work helping immigrant crime victims, primarily women who have been subjected to human trafficking and sexual assault.

Elise is the Senior Supervising Attorney for the Crime Victims Assistance Program at Catholic Charities’ St. Frances Cabrini Center for Immigrant Legal Assistance ("Cabrini Center"). In her work for the Cabrini Center, Elise helps immigrant victims of crimes to apply for immigration benefits, including humanitarian relief such as visas and remedies under the Violence Against Women Act.

Hurricane Harvey was a year ago this August. Many Houstonians and other Harris County residents worked together to help one another during the storm and right after the waters cleared, but Harvey also shined a light on extensive inequalities.

Join Indivisible Houston for our next general meeting to learn about the status of our city, what has taken place over the last ten months, where gaps still remain, and how we can all work together to continue to resist Harvey.

This meeting will feature:

1) An overview from HTX Youth Summit on what young organizers in our city are working on to address urban justice issues and how we can all support their work;

2) A presentation from Houston Climate Movement on the state of policies/legislation that will affect communities during future storms, as well as what policies we can all support to make Houston safer and more resilient to the effects of climate change, especially during but not limited to natural disasters; and

3) a presentation and overview on the bond vote coming up August 25th that Harris County Commissioners Court has put on the ballot during an off-month election.

Other women's groups in Harris County also are co-hosting the event - listed below. This will be the "kick-off" for the fall GOTV initiative of "Sisters United Alliance."
