BETH HARRISON STEVENS is the Voting Rights Program Director at Texas Civil Rights Project. She is responsible for the oversight of TCRP’s voting rights litigation and for partnering with local, state-wide, and nationwide organizations to ensure eligible Texans are able to vote. Beth brings extensive litigation and advocacy experience to this role. She received her BA in History from UT Austin and her law degree from SMU Dedman School of Law. She is committed to furthering progressive causes throughout Texas, enjoys volunteering with local non-profits, and is zealous about fighting inequity and injustice.

Event Description:

We need to register as many voters as we can. That's why we're asking Battleground Texas supporters to get trained as Volunteer Deputy Registrars (VDRs). After this short training, you'll be qualified to register voters in Harris County! VDR certificates administered between 2017-2018 expired at the end of 2018, so if you haven't gotten deputized during the 2019-2020 cycle, you will need to attend this training.

Volunteer Deputy Voter Registrar Training and Monthly Meeting, National Organization for Women (NOW)

Event Description:

We're kicking off the new year by hosting Volunteer Deputy Voter Registrar training at The Montrose Center, room 107. Training is open to the public and will be conducted by the Office of Ann Harris Bennett*. Qualified Texas voters who complete this simple one-hour training session will be certified to register voters in Harris County for the next two years. VDVR appointments made during 2017-2018 expire at the end of 2018.

Right after the public VDVR training and Q&A, we will move to room 111 for our chapter meeting. We plan to have Ann Harris Bennett there, as well as a panel of NOW members from our "NOW We Vote" team to focus on the road ahead. As usual, we will do a quick review of our ongoing projects for clinic defense, CPC actions, etc.

*RSVP no later than 48 hours in advance to receive your certificate of appointment on the same day of the VDVR training. If no RSVP is submitted, you can still attend and receive your certificate of appointment by mail within 10 business days after completion.

All participants must arrive on-time and attend the training in its entirety on a first-come, first serve-basis. Training is approximately one hour.

Annual Dues are $20 for currently enrolled college student (with College ID), $30 for an individual or $40 for all registered voters in your household.

A selection of films from the Wild & Scenic Film Festival, North America’s largest environmental film festival, will bring two hours of beautiful, educational, and inspiring films to the big screen at River Oaks Theatre on January 30 & 31, 2019, from 7:00 – 9:00 pm each night.

We will show a different selection of films each night which cover a variety of issues. It is our hope to use the festival to increase community understanding of the connection we share with the planet and our roles as stewards of the environment in which we live. We will also show a local environmental film each night to highlight the work of CEC’s member organizations, and inspire our residents and visitors to make a difference in the environment and quality of life.
