In these unprecedented times, we want to let you know that we are here for you and our community. COVID-19 has changed the daily lives of nearly everyone and right now our priority continues to be the health and safety of our team and the communities we serve. While we are changing the way we do our daily business, we aren't stopping our important work.
Our Organizing Continues Strong
Our organizing and outreach work continues strong. We have launched an online petition to ask Gov. Abbott to make voting by mail available to every Texas voter. We held an online training session to teach our local leaders about Virtual Organizing. We've called thousands of the members of our community to check on them and remind them to fill out the U.S. Census. We conducted our first Joint Senate District Convention entirely via livestream.
In addition, we are still working to expand the electorate. Our organizing staff of four people are working across the county (virtually) to train precinct chairs, work with Democratic clubs, and empowering voters to participate within the system beyond simply voting, especially in times like these.
No Events, But You Can Still Support Our Work
We have cancelled all of our public events through the end of April. This includes all fundraising events, community events, and meetings. To the extent possible we are conducting meetings via virtual methods.
Since a majority of our funding comes from our events, if you are able, we ask you to become part of our Sustaining Member community to financially support our efforts this year. Our Sustaining Members are the main foundation of the Harris County Democratic Party. During this uncertain time, we’re relying on individuals like you to make sure we can keep employing our staff, doing outreach, and getting ready for November.
Our Office is Physically Closed, But We're Still Available
We have physically closed the Party office until further notice, but our staff continues to work remotely. Our work doesn’t stop. It can't stop. We will continue our efforts to elect Democrats up and down the ballot throughout 2020. If you need to reach us, we are still here for you and our community via email or via phone at 713-802-0085.
These are unprecedented times and it will take unprecedented measures to get us through this. We stand fully behind our local authorities and elected officials that are working to ensure that our community gets through this moment and we keep as many people as healthy as possible. We'll trust the public health experts and scientists to determine when we will resume our normal operations.
In the meantime we will continue to adapt our methods to keep people safe and ensure that we do everything in our power to make sure that, despite the challenges, we are able to thrive and win together in 2020.
