Harris County Democrats Announce NARAL Pro-Choice America President as Keynote of Johnson Rayburn Richards Dinner

Reproductive Freedom Advocate Mini Timmaraju to Headline Sept.10 ‘Rights Post Roe’ Event

Houston – The Harris County Democratic Party today announced that NARAL Pro-Choice America President Mini Timmaraju will headline the Party’s annual Johnson Rayburn Richards fundraiser on Sept. 10. The event, themed “Rights Post Roe,” will be held at the Marriott Marquis in downtown Houston.

“Houston’s own Mini Timmaraju serves on the front lines in the fight for reproductive freedom in the United States, and we are absolutely thrilled to have her headline this year’s JRR,” said HCDP Chair Odus Evbagharu.

Ms. Timmaraju – a long-time advocate for reproductive rights, gender justice, and racial justice – is the first woman of color to lead NARAL Pro-Choice America, the nation’s leading reproductive freedom advocacy group.

“Houston’s own Mini Timmaraju serves on the front lines in the fight for reproductive freedom in the United States, and we are absolutely thrilled to have her headline this year’s JRR,” said HCDP Chair Odus Evbagharu.

“Extremist GOP lawmakers are intent on destroying reproductive rights, but leaders like Ms. Timmaraju are working to mobilize the majority of Americans who believe access to abortion should be legally protected.”

A first-generation immigrant from India, Timmaraju served as an advisor on diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility for the Biden-Harris administration and as the national women’s vote director for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign.

Ms. Timmaraju moved to the Greater Houston area with her family in 1979. She graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, and holds a law degree from the University of Houston Law Center, where she was the recipient of the Joan Garfinkle Glantz award for outstanding work in the field of civil rights and the Class of 1999 Distinguished Service Award.

While in Houston, she was a member of Leadership Houston’s Class XXIX and served as President of the Asian American Democrats of Texas, President of the Indo-American PAC of Greater Houston, a member of the Texas State Democratic Executive Committee, and as Vice President of Public Affairs and Government Relations for Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast. During her career, she has advised many Houston-area candidates and campaigns.
