Harris Democrats Statement on Timberview High School Shooting
‘Our Elected Leaders Must Start Taking Action to Address the Causes of Gun Violence,’ Says HCDP Chair
Harris Democratic Party Chair Odus Evbagharu issued the following statement about the shooting Wednesday at Timberview High School in Arlington, Texas:
“Less than a week after a school shooting at Houston’s YES Prep, another gun-related attack has taken place, this time at Timberview High School in Arlington, Texas.
Not only are we sad and upset. Not only are we thinking of the four shooting victims, as well as the students, teachers, parents and community who are dealing with this trauma.
We are frustrated. And we are angry — angry about the political gridlock and inaction surrounding gun safety.
Our nation’s gun violence epidemic continues to plague schools and communities, and our elected leaders must start taking action to address the causes of gun violence.
Right now, Texas Republicans continue to pass laws that loosen firearm restrictions, making us feel less safe in our home state. I call on voters across Texas to change that. Show up in force at every election. Let’s elect officials who put systems and laws in place that protect everyone from the gun violence we continue to see — because shootings like today’s have been happening for far too long.”
