HCDP Chair Calls Out Texas Governor’s ‘Empty Promises’ After Extreme Temps Bring Scorching ERCOT Announcement of Generator Failures, Need to Conserve Power

‘Abbott’s Failure to Fix the Grid is Causing More Suffering with Potential Grim Outcomes’

Houston – The Electric Reliability Council of Texas announced today that the Texas power grid again is struggling to meet demand as the state is hit with extreme summer temperatures. HCDP Chair Odus Evbagharu responded to the ERCOT announcement with the following statement:

“Gov. Abbott’s failure to fix the grid is causing more suffering with potential grim outcomes.

“The Texas power grid continues to prove unreliable, and our governor refuses to take the necessary steps to ensure the people of Texas are protected from extreme weather.

“Abbott repeatedly has said our power grid is ‘better than ever’ and even said last year that his new reforms ‘fix all of the flaws.’ Calling the grid issues ‘fixed’ is yet another example of flawed leadership from our Republican state leader.

“Gov. Abbott continues to deliver empty promises to the people he was elected to lead and protect. His continued leadership failures confirm that Beto O’Rourke should be our next governor.”
