Our Party

About Us

We are dedicated to promoting the Democratic Party mission. We are committed to making sure our local and state policies reflect the values of our community.

We are focused on creating a more equitable and just society by advocating for equal rights and opportunities for all. We strive to engage with the public and those we represent to ensure their voices are heard and their needs are met.

Economy that works for everyone

An Economy that Works for Everyone

Our tax system is rigged in favor of big corporations and the wealthiest 1 percent. These privileged few can avoid paying their fair share, while middle-class families shoulder more and more of the tax burden. As Democrats, we want a fairer system that gives tax cuts to hard-working families and small business owners and provides us all with more public goods like efficient public transportation, healthcare for all and debt-free college. We also believe that no one who works full-time should live in poverty. We want to raise the federal minimum wage to $15 per hour, invest in job training and technical education and expand family leave so that you can care for a sick loved one without the fear of losing your job.

Education for all

A Good Education
for All

Our current school finance system is broken. It leaves our schools - urban, rural and suburban - underfunded, threatening the livelihoods of the next generation. We need to end the vicious cycle of Republican cuts to education at the state level that result in higher property taxes and underperforming schools at the local level. As Democrats, we believe that it shouldn’t matter whether you’re a mechanic, a cashier or a CEO - your child deserves access to a top-quality public education. We also believe that every student who is willing and able should have the opportunity to obtain a college degree, certificate or technical training without being saddled with debt.

Healthcare for all Americans

Healthcare for Every American

We adhere to the affirmation of the Declaration of Independence that life is an unalienable right. To that end, President Barack Obama signed the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in 2010. The ACA stopped the inhumane practice of lifetime caps on care and insurance companies denying coverage or charging higher premiums for preexisting conditions like diabetes or even pregnancy. We will fight any and all attempts by Republicans to take us back to the injustice of the pre-ACA healthcare system. Although the ACA has insured nearly 20 million more people since the law went into effect, it’s not enough. Democrats believe in fighting for a healthcare system that will reduce your out-of-pocket costs significantly and cover all Americans, regardless of income.

Live and let live

Live and Let Live

The Democratic Party believes in liberty. We define liberty by what you can do, not by what you can keep others from doing. We believe that your life shouldn’t be thrown off course by a marijuana charge. That’s why Democrats across the country, including in Harris County, have led the fight to decriminalize marijuana. We think that the bathroom you decide to use and the person you choose to marry should be up to you, not the government. We believe in a woman’s right to choose what happens to her own body and in her right to be paid as much as a man in the same job. Unlike Republican politicians, Democrats believe in your right to a free and open internet. We believe in fighting against laws that encourage and legalize the racial profiling of immigrants and people of color, and we believe in a justice system where everyone is treated equally under the law, regardless of race or income.
